از … تا
From … to
It works for times, days, places and numbers.
How It Works
The pattern is the same for every kind of range.
| Kind | Dari | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| time of day | از صبح تا شب | from morning to night |
| hours | از ساعت نه تا پنج | from nine to five |
| days | از شنبه تا چهارشنبه | from Saturday to Wednesday |
| places | از کابل تا بامیان | from Kabul to Bamiyan |
| numbers | از یک تا ده | from one to ten |
The end of a range takes تا. For times and numbers, به does not close the range.
تا also means until and so that in other entries. Here it only closes the range between two points, as in از اول تا آخر (from the first to the last).
