Three Shared Plural Forms
One plural form can serve three cases.
How It Works
Gradovima can describe recipients, places discussed, or places something travels through. A shared ending does not make those three grammatical roles identical.
Compare the common endings in knjigama, selima and kostima. Masculine nouns with an expanded plural keep that extension: grad → gradovi → gradovima.
Use the whole phrase when reading. In o gradovima the preposition identifies the locative; in s prijateljima it identifies the instrumental.
Examples (3)

Pomagati assigns dative to the people helped.
- Razgovaramo o gradovima.
We are talking about cities.
O selects the locative here.
- Putujemo s prijateljima.
We are travelling with friends.
S selects instrumental for company.
