The perfective present series is budem, budeš, bude, budemo, budete and budu. It occurs in particular dependent constructions and builds futur II.

How It Works

The two present series of biti serve different constructions. Sada sam kod kuće. states a current situation. Ako budem kod kuće, otvorit ću vrata. places being at home inside a condition about a later situation.

Budem can also combine with a participle to build futur II: ako budem radio. In that construction, budem is an auxiliary rather than the entire predicate meaning be at home.

Regional speech can use budem in additional future expressions. This entry teaches the standard dependent uses first. Do not substitute budem for sam in every simple present statement, or confuse bude with imperative budi.
