znati → znam
Present of Znati
Znati commonly uses znam, znaš, zna, znamo, znate and znaju. It can introduce a fact, a skill or other knowledge.
How It Works
The basic present is znam, znaš, zna, znamo, znate, znaju. Its ordinary negative is written separately: ne znam.
Znam odgovor. names known information. Znam plivati. names a skill. Knowing a language can be expressed with znam hrvatski; govorim hrvatski focuses on speaking it.
Poznavati is a useful verb for familiarity with a person or place, but do not teach a blanket ban on znati with people. The Croatian school dictionary also records znati in that sense. Context and complement distinguish the actual reading; a convenient learner contrast is not an absolute grammatical prohibition.
