piti → pijem
Present of Piti
The present forms are pijem, piješ, pije, pijemo, pijete and piju. Keep j in every form of this present series.
How It Works
Learn piti/pijem as a pair. First- and second-person plural are pijemo and pijete; third-person plural is piju, not a form built by adding -e to piti.
Drinks can be accusative objects: pijem vodu, pijem čaj. The noun may also be omitted when the intended meaning is clear, though a bare statement about drinking can suggest alcohol in some contexts.
The past pio/pila and imperative pij differ from the present. Do not keep the entire present stem when forming every other tense. Negation remains a separate word: ne pijem.
