gdje / kamo / kuda
Location Destination and Route
In careful standard usage, gdje asks where something is, kamo asks its destination, and kuda asks which way it goes.
How It Works
Gdje si? asks for a location, such as u knjižnici. Kamo ideš? asks for a destination, such as u knjižnicu. This often connects with locative versus accusative after u or na.
Kuda ideš? asks which way or along what route, for example kroz park. A movement verb alone does not identify which information is missing: people can ask about the place where a movement happens as well as its destination.
Everyday and regional speech often overlaps these words, particularly gdje or kuda used for destination. Recognize those usages without treating speakers as incomprehensible; keep the location–destination–route distinction available for precise standard wording.
