Između takes genitive.

How It Works

With two reference points, both take the required form: između kuće i škole. The coordinating i does not remove the second noun’s case requirement.

One plural phrase can also name the reference group: između prijatelja. A written form such as prijatelja may be ambiguous by itself, so read the complete phrase.

Između also works for non-spatial relationships, including a choice between alternatives. The genitive requirement remains even when nothing is physically located in the middle.

    The park is between the school and the library.

    Škole and knjižnice are genitive singular.

  2. Sjedim između dviju prijateljica.

    I am sitting between two female friends.

    Dviju prijateljica is a genitive counting phrase.

  3. Postoji razlika između tih gradova.

    There is a difference between those cities.

    Tih gradova is genitive plural in an abstract relationship.
