Pronouns with vaig plus Infinitive

Level 2

In the periphrastic past, place the pronoun before the auxiliary or after the infinitive.

How It Works

El vaig veure and vaig veure'l both mean I saw him or it. The pronoun has the same grammatical role in both versions. Choose one position for the whole pronoun group; do not duplicate the object at both ends.

Before the auxiliary, use the appropriate preverbal form: em va trucar, hi vam anar. After the infinitive, attach the suitable postverbal form with hyphen or apostrophe: va trucar-me, vam anar-hi. The infinitive's ending determines the written boundary.

Negation still precedes the finite auxiliary: no el vaig veure or no vaig veure'l. The verb remains the same past construction without a. Its two pronoun placements do not turn one version into present movement or change which person performed the action.
