всеки/всички/всичко
Every, All and Everything
Всеки means "every" or "everyone", всички means "all" or "everybody", and всичко means "everything".
How It Works
1. Всеки — every, each, everyone. It has three singular forms that agree with the noun (see noun gender):
- всеки ден (every day) — masculine
- всяка седмица (every week) — feminine
- всяко утро (every morning) — neuter
On its own, всеки means "everyone" and takes a singular verb: Всеки може да сгреши. (Anyone can make a mistake.) With a number it means "every ... ": на всеки два часа (every two hours).
2. Всички — all, everybody. It is plural and has one form: всички деца (all children), всички стаи (all rooms). Alone it means "everybody" and takes a plural verb: Всички са тук. Say всички ние for "all of us". The article form всичките means "all the ... " for a known group: всичките ми приятели (all my friends).
3. Всичко — everything. It is neuter singular, so adjectives and verbs agree with it: Всичко е наред. (Everything is fine.) Благодаря за всичко! (Thanks for everything!)
4. No article after всеки. Say всеки ден, never всеки денят. Its opposite in negative sentences is никой and нищо.
Examples (6)
- Всеки ден уча нови думи.
I learn new words every day.
- Всяка сутрин тичам в парка.
I run in the park every morning.
Сутрин is feminine, so всеки becomes всяка.
- Всеки може да сгреши.
Anyone can make a mistake.
Всеки alone means everyone and takes a singular verb.
- Всички са тук.
Everybody is here.
Всички takes the plural verb са.
- Всички ученици имат учебници.
All students have textbooks.
- Всичко е наред.

Common Mistakes
Using a plural verb with всеки.
Всеки знаят отговора.Всеки знае отговора.Всеки means "each one" and is grammatically singular, so the verb is singular. Use всички знаят for a plural.
Not matching всеки to the gender of the noun.
всеки седмицавсяка седмицаСедмица is feminine, so the feminine form всяка is needed. Use всяко for neuter nouns such as утро.
Using всички for "everything".
Всички е наред.Всичко е наред.Всички means "all people" or "all of them". For "everything", use the neuter singular всичко.
