How It Works
1. Reason first. To put the reason first, open the sentence with тъй като, then add a comma and the main clause:
- Тъй като влакът закъсня, пропуснахме срещата. (Since the train was late, we missed the meeting.)
- Тъй като сте нов клиент, получавате отстъпка. (Since you are a new customer, you get a discount.)
A reason clause with защото cannot come first like this.
2. Reason second. In the neutral order the main clause comes first, with a comma before тъй като: Отложихме пътуването, тъй като времето се развали. (We postponed the trip since the weather turned bad.)
3. Style. Тъй is a shorter variant of така, but as a conjunction тъй като sounds neutral to formal. It is at home in writing, announcements and careful speech. In relaxed conversation people mostly say защото or понеже.
4. Short answers. A short answer to a защо question usually starts with защото: — Защо не дойде? — Защото бях болен.
Compare щом, which gives a reason the listener already accepts, and така че, which introduces the result instead of the reason.

Opening the sentence with a защото clause.
