Toward and According to
Autobus ide prema Zenici shows direction. Ona je ljubazna prema meni shows attitude. Prema vijestima means "according to the news".
How It Works
| Meaning | Example |
|---|---|
| toward | prema gradu, prema rijeci |
| to a person (attitude) | ljubazan prema djeci |
| according to | prema mom mišljenju |
With a pronoun, use the long dative form, not the short one: prema meni, prema njemu, prema vama.
Prema is a little different from k. With k you go to a place or a person, but with prema you only point in the direction. It also appears with time: prema večeri (toward evening).
For "according to" you can also use po or u skladu s, but prema is common in news and speech. Be careful: prema does not mean "to" in the sense of arriving. For that, use u or na with the accusative.
