što više, to više

The More, The More

Level 5

Što više čitam, to bolje razumijem. Što ranije, to bolje.

How It Works

PatternExample
što + comparative, to + comparativeŠto više čitam, to bolje razumijem.
short formŠto ranije, to bolje.
with an adjectiveŠto je veći grad, to je više buke.

The comparative can be an adverb (više, bolje, ranije) or an adjective (veći, jači). Match the second to the first in shape.

You can drop the verb for a short saying: Što prije, to bolje (the sooner, the better). This is common in speech.

The word to here is a pointing word, and it does not change. Some speakers use tim instead of to, as in što više, tim bolje. Both are normal.
