nemoj + Infinitive
Telling Someone Not to
Nemoj/nemojte + infinitive = do not do it.
How It Works
For a negative command, the easy pattern is nemoj with the infinitive. Bosnian also has ne with an imperfective imperative, as in Ne idi!, but start with nemoj.
| Who | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ti | nemoj | Nemoj ići. |
| vi | nemojte | Nemojte kasniti. |
| mi | nemojmo | Nemojmo žuriti. |
The verb stays in the infinitive and does not change for person.
You will also hear da + present in speech: Nemoj da kasniš. Both versions are fine. The infinitive version is the one to learn first, because it is short and works with every verb.
Compare the positive command: Idi! (go) and the negative Nemoj ići! (do not go). The positive uses the imperative form, and the negative uses nemoj plus the infinitive.
