Saying How Old You Are
After one: godinu (jednu godinu). After two, three and four: godine. After five and more: godina.
How It Works
| Number | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1, 21, 31 | godinu | Imam dvadeset jednu godinu. |
| 2, 3, 4, 22, 23, 24 | godine | Imam trideset dvije godine. |
| 5 to 20, 25 to 30, 40, 60 | godina | Imam četrdeset godina. |
The numbers 11, 12, 13 and 14 count as "five and more", so you use dvanaest godina. The word jedna turns into jednu because it is the object of imam.
To ask, use Koliko ti je godina? or the polite Koliko Vam je godina? A short answer can be Dvadeset mi je godina. You can also use the verb: Amir ima trideset godina.
Use the same pattern when you talk about the time since something: Živim ovdje tri godine.
