bez obzira na
Regardless of
Regardless of something.
How It Works
Bez obzira na is a fixed phrase for regardless of or no matter. It is common in news and in speech about plans.
- Idemo u šetnju bez obzira na kišu. We go for a walk regardless of the rain.
- Bez obzira na godine, svi mogu učiti. Whatever their age, everyone can learn.
The noun after na is in the accusative. Feminine nouns in -a end in -u (kišu), and plural nouns look like the plural accusative (godine). For masculine and neuter things, the accusative looks like the nominative (vrijeme).
With a clause, the full form is bez obzira na to šta se desi (no matter what happens). In speech you often hear it shortened to bez obzira šta se desi.
The meaning is close to uprkos (in spite of), which takes the dative, but bez obzira na sounds more neutral and is easier to use in a plan.
