Present of -jeti Verbs

Level 2

Each -jeti verb has its own present.

How It Works

vidjeti (see)razumjeti (understand)željeti (want)
javidimrazumijemželim
tividišrazumiješželiš
on, onavidirazumiježeli
mividimorazumijemoželimo
vividiterazumijeteželite
onividerazumijužele

Notice that the infinitive does not tell you the present. Vidjeti and željeti take the endings -im, -iš, -i (they form -e), but razumjeti takes -ijem, -iješ, -ije, with -iju in the they form.

Other common verbs follow the first pattern: voljeti gives volim, sjediti gives sjedim. The jat in the stem is written ije or je as the standard says.

When you meet a new -jeti verb, look up the I form and write it next to the infinitive.
