Months in the Other Standards
Bosnian says januar and august, Croatian says siječanj and kolovoz, and Serbian says avgust.
How It Works
Learners meet other month names in books, on TV and on trips. Here is how the three standards compare.
| Bosnian | Croatian | Serbian |
|---|---|---|
| januar | siječanj | januar |
| februar | veljača | februar |
| mart | ožujak | mart |
| juni | lipanj | jun |
| juli | srpanj | jul |
| august | kolovoz | avgust |
Bosnian and Serbian share april, maj, septembar, oktobar, novembar and decembar. Croatian has its own names: travanj, svibanj, rujan, listopad, studeni and prosinac. Bosnian speakers also use jun, jul and avgust, so you will hear those too.
Use the Bosnian months in your own writing. The names go with u and the locative: u augustu, u martu.
