iz, od, do + Genitive
From, Out of, Until
Iz, od and do are followed by the genitive.
How It Works
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| iz | out of, from a place | iz Tuzle |
| od | from a person, since, of | od Lejle, od jutra |
| do | as far as, until | do stanice, do petka |
Use iz when something comes out of a place or from a city or country: iz kuće, iz Bosne. For places that you say with na, such as work or the market, use s or sa instead: s posla, sa pijace.
Od often marks a starting time or a person who gives something. Do marks the end. Together they make a range.
Names of towns follow the genitive rules of their gender: Mostar gives iz Mostara, and Tuzla gives iz Tuzle.
