jesti / piti
Eating and Drinking: Jesti and Piti
Present of eating and drinking.
How It Works
| jesti (eat) | piti (drink) | |
|---|---|---|
| ja | jedem | pijem |
| ti | jedeš | piješ |
| on, ona, ono | jede | pije |
| mi | jedemo | pijemo |
| vi | jedete | pijete |
| oni | jedu | piju |
The thing eaten or drunk is the object and takes the accusative: jedem hljeb, pijem kafu, pijem mlijeko.
The infinitive hides the stem. Notice that jesti shows jes- but the present uses jed-. You can also use jedem in the sense of I am eating now or I eat often, because the one present covers both.
The past is jeo, jela and pio, pila, and the imperative is jedi and pij.
