| on, ona, ono | da |
| mi | damo |
| vi | date |
| oni | daju |
The he form da looks like the little word da (that), so the rest of the sentence tells you which it is: Ako Amir da knjigu Lejli, bit će sretna.
Dati usually has a person who gets the thing (dative) and a thing given (accusative): Dam ti kafu.
Dati is perfective: it names one finished act of giving. For giving again and again, speakers use the imperfective davati: Svaki dan dajem hljeb. The present of dati can point to something about to happen, as in a quick offer (Dam ti kafu). For a plain future, use dat ću.
The imperative is daj: Daj mi sol, molim te.
