dva / dvije
Dva and Dvije
Dva brata, dva sela and dvije sestre: the number matches the gender of the noun.
How It Works
| Gender | Number | Example |
|---|---|---|
| masculine | dva | dva brata, dva sata |
| neuter | dva | dva sela, dva mora |
| feminine | dvije | dvije sestre, dvije kafe |
The same choice appears in bigger numbers that end in two: dvadeset dva sata, dvadeset dvije godine.
When you count a mixed group of people or children, speakers often use dvoje with the genitive plural: dvoje djece (two children), dvoje ljudi (two people). This is a different group number. Another entry covers it.
The word for "both" works the same way: oba brata and obje sestre.
