Abbreviations

Level 5

BiH, dr., npr., itd. and tj. are common abbreviations in writing.

How It Works

Short formFull formMeaning
BiHBosna i HercegovinaBosnia and Herzegovina
npr.na primjerfor example
itd.i tako daljeand so on
tj.to jestthat is
dr.doktordoctor
br.brojnumber
KMkonvertibilna markathe currency

A full stop follows most short forms (npr., itd., tj., dr.). BiH and KM have none. BiH is written with a capital B, a small i and a capital H.

When an abbreviation ends a sentence, one full stop is enough.

Abbreviations are for writing. When you speak, use the full words, such as na primjer for npr., and read KM as the letters ka-em.
