The Bosnian Alphabet
Thirty letters, one main sound for each letter.
How It Works
The alphabet has 30 letters. Most look like English letters and sound close to them.
| Letter | Sounds like |
|---|---|
| c | ts in cats |
| č | ch in church |
| š | sh in ship |
| ž | s in measure |
| j | y in yes |
The letters ć, đ, dž, lj and nj get their own entries. Each of the pairs dž, lj and nj is one letter, so a dictionary files them as units.
Always write the marks. People often leave them out when texting, but cevapi is not the same word as ćevapi on a menu or in a lesson.
