зайсці / заходзіць
Dropping by with Зайсці and Заходзіць
Зайсці and заходзіць mean to drop by, to stop in: Зайдзі да мяне заўтра. (Drop by my place tomorrow.) Я зайшоў у краму. (I stopped at the shop.)
How It Works
The prefix за- on ісці and хадзіць adds the idea of a short visit, usually on the way somewhere else.
- зайсці (perfective, one visit): зайду, зойдзеш, зойдзе, зойдзем, зойдзеце, зойдуць; past зайшоў, зайшла, зайшлі; imperative зайдзі, зайдзіце.
- заходзіць (imperfective, repeated visits and invitations): заходжу, заходзіш, заходзіць; imperative заходзь, заходзьце.
As with дайсці, only the я-form of the future keeps the a: зайду́, but зо́йдзеш, зо́йдзе.
Who or where.
- a person: да + genitive (да with the genitive): зайсці да бабулі, да мяне
- a place: у/на + accusative (direction): зайсці ў аптэку, на пошту
- what you come to get: па + accusative (going to get with па): Я зайду па цябе а сёмай. (I'll come by for you at seven.)
Invitations. The imperfective imperative sounds warm and open: Заходзьце! (Come in!) Заходзь, калі будзеш побач. (Drop in when you are nearby.)
Other meanings. With за + accusative, зайсці means going behind something: Сонца зайшло за хмары. (The sun went behind the clouds.) Said of the sun alone, it means to set. By vehicle, use заехаць / заязджаць: Я заеду па цябе. (I'll pick you up by car.)

Common Mistakes
Using the dative after да.
Зайдзі да мне заўтра.Зайдзі да мяне заўтра.Да always takes the genitive: да мяне, да сябра. Мне is the dative form, so it cannot follow да.
Keeping a in the prefix in the stressed forms.
Ты зайдзеш да нас вечарам?Ты зойдзеш да нас вечарам?In the future tense, only the я-form keeps a: зайду. In the other forms the stress falls on the prefix: зойдзеш, зойдзе.
Using the locative for the place you go into.
Па дарозе я зайшоў у краме.Па дарозе я зайшоў у краму.Зайсці is movement into a place, so у takes the accusative: у краму. The locative у краме only says where something happens.
