мы + -ем/-ім
Present Tense with Мы
The мы form ends in -ем in the first conjugation and -ім in the second: мы чытаем, мы робім.
How It Works
Use this form with мы (we) or with a subject like мы з сябрам (my friend and I).
First conjugation:
- stressed, after a vowel or soft consonant: -ём: ідзём, жывём, нясём
- stressed, after ж, ш, ч, р: -ом: бяром, пячом
- unstressed, after a vowel or soft consonant: -ем: чытаем, працуем, ведаем
- unstressed, after ж, ш, ч, р: -ам: пішам, кажам, хочам
The unstressed -ам is akanye at work: an unstressed о or е after a hard consonant is written а.
Second conjugation: -ім after a soft consonant (робім, ходзім, любім) and -ым after ж, ш, ч, р (гаворым, бачым, ляжым).
Watch out: the ты form бярэш has э, but the мы form of the same verb is бяром, with о. Do not copy the vowel from one person to another; learn я, ты and мы together for verbs with a stressed ending.
The мы form of a few verbs is also used for "let's": Ідзём! (Let's go!) See хадзем and давай.

Common Mistakes
Writing е instead of ё in a stressed ending.
Мы ідзем дадому.Мы ідзём дадому.When the мы ending is stressed after a soft consonant, it is written -ём.
Using the Russian ending -ем after ш.
Мы пішем ліст.Мы пішам ліст.The stress in пішам is on the stem, so the vowel after ш is written а.
Copying the э from the ты form.
Мы бярэм таксі.Мы бяром таксі.The stressed мы ending after р is -ом, even though the ты form is бярэш.
