Genitive After Каля, Ля, Пасля and Для
Каля (near), ля (by), пасля (after) and для (for) are always followed by the genitive: пасля ўрока (after class), для сястры (for my sister).
How It Works
каля — near; about. (I live near the river). With amounts and time, каля means "about": каля гадзіны (about an hour).
ля — by, next to. (The table is by the window). Ля means "near, by" like каля, but it is used only for place.
пасля — after. пасля ўрока (after class), пасля працы (after work), пасля абеду (after lunch). The у of урок is written ў after the vowel of пасля (see у and ў).
для — for. падарунак для сястры (a present for my sister), Гэта для цябе (This is for you), кніга для дзяцей (a book for children). With verbs of giving, the receiver is usually in the dative instead: Я даю кнігу сястры.
Pronouns take their genitive forms with no added
