Question Word Які
Які asks which or what kind of. It changes like an adjective to match its noun: Якая сёння пагода? (What is the weather like today?)
How It Works
1. Agreement. Які follows the same pattern as adjectives:
- Які ў цябе тэлефон? (What phone do you have?)
- Якая сёння пагода? (What is the weather like today?)
- Якое сёння чысло? (What is the date today?)
- Якія кнігі ты любіш? (What books do you like?)
The neuter ending is -ое because it is stressed.
2. Case forms. After a preposition or as an object, які takes adjective case endings: у якім горадзе (in which city), з якой сяброўкай (with which friend), Якую музыку ты слухаеш? (What music do you listen to?).
3. Які or што? Што asks what on its own: Што гэта? Які always goes with a noun, stated or understood, and asks about its kind or identity.
4. Exclamations. Які also means what a: Які прыгожы дзень! (What a beautiful day!).
Later: які also links clauses, as in кніга, якую я чытаю (see relative які).

- У якім горадзе ты жывеш?

Locative якім after у.
- Які прыгожы дзень!
What a beautiful day!

Common Mistakes
Using the masculine form with a feminine noun.
Які сёння пагода?Якая сёння пагода?Пагода is feminine, so the question word is якая.
Using a singular form with a plural noun.
Якое кнігі ты чытаеш?Якія кнігі ты чытаеш?Кнігі is plural, so the question word is якія.
Forgetting the case after a preposition.
У які горадзе ты жывеш?У якім горадзе ты жывеш?Горадзе is locative after у, and які must take the locative ending too: якім.
