কোন
Who and Which
কোন means “who” or “which”: তোমাৰ শিক্ষক কোন? “who is your teacher?”.
How It Works
কোন covers two English words. The word it stands next to tells you which one is meant.
| Use | Example |
|---|---|
| who, standing alone | ঘৰত কোন আছে? “Who is in the house?” |
| which, before a noun | তুমি কোন শ্ৰেণীত আছা? “Which class are you in?” |
To ask “which one” of several things, join a classifier to কোন. Use কোনটো for a thing, কোনখন for a flat thing and কোনজন for a person.
কি asks “what” and gets the name of a thing as its answer. কোন asks about a person or picks one from a known group.
Examples (4)
- ঘৰত কোন আছে?
Who is in the house?
কোন stands in front of the verb আছে and asks about a person.
- তোমাৰ শিক্ষক কোন?
Who is your teacher?
The sentence has no verb, so কোন comes last.
- সেইজন কোন?
Who is that person?
সেইজন points at a person and কোন asks who it is.
- তুমি কোন শ্ৰেণীত আছা?
Which class are you in?
কোন stands before the noun শ্ৰেণী “class” and means “which”.
