goh ... goh
Now ... Now
goh A, goh B = now A, now B: Kun boʻyi goh yomgʻir yogʻdi, goh quyosh chiqdi (All day, one moment it rained and the next the sun came out).
How It Works
One goh for each part. Goh goes before every part that takes a turn, and a comma separates the parts:
- verbs: goh kuladi, goh yigʻlaydi (now she laughs, now she cries)
- adjectives: goh yaxshi, goh yomon (sometimes good, sometimes bad)
- nouns with endings: goh derazaga, goh eshikka (now at the window, now at the door)
- whole clauses: goh men borardim, goh u kelardi (sometimes I went, sometimes he came)
Taking turns, not both at once. Goh ... goh means the things switch back and forth. For two things that are true together, use ham ... ham. For a choice between them, use yoki. For neither of them, use na ... na.
Everyday words. In conversation, people often say baʼzan ..., baʼzan ... (sometimes ..., sometimes ...), using a word from How Often. The single words gohida and goho mean sometimes on their own: Gohida kinoga boraman (Sometimes I go to the cinema).
