ви
Polite or Plural You
Ви (vy) is the Ukrainian word for 'you.' It is used in two ways: to address a group of people (plural) or to address one person politely (formal singular).
How It Works
In Ukrainian, choosing the right 'you' is essential for social etiquette.
1. Plural Usage: When speaking to two or more people, always use ви. This is neutral and applies to friends, children, or colleagues alike.
2. Polite Singular Usage: When speaking to one adult you do not know well, a teacher, a boss, or an elder, use ви to show respect. Using the informal ти in these cases can be seen as rude.
3. Grammatical Agreement: Even when ви refers to just one person, the verb must always be in the plural form. For example, in the present tense, you use endings like -ете. In the past tense, you use the plural ending -ли.
4. Capitalization: In formal letters or emails addressed to one person, you may see Ви capitalized as a special sign of honor. However, in general writing and when addressing a group, it remains lowercase.

Adding an 'н-' prefix to 'вас' after a preposition.
Це для нвас.Це для вас.Unlike third-person pronouns (нього, неї), the forms of 'ви' (вас, вам, вами) do not take an 'н-' prefix after prepositions.
