mu (In)
In: Mu
Say the thing, then mu: dan no mu means in the room, and Kɔ dan no mu means Go into the room.
How It Works
1. The pattern
Noun + mu.
- dan no mu (in the room)
- kuruwa no mu (in the cup)
- me kotoku mu (in my bag)
2. In and into
With wɔ it means in: Ɔwɔ dan no mu (She is in the room). After kɔ (go) or ba (come) it means into: Kɔ dan no mu (Go into the room). Twi uses the same word for both.
3. When you do not need mu
Towns and home are places in themselves, so they follow wɔ or te directly: Mete Kumase (I live in Kumasi), Ɔwɔ fie (She is at home). See Living Somewhere: te and At, In: wɔ.
4. Among
After a group word, mu means among or of: yɛn mu baako (one of us), mo mu biara (each of you).

Common Mistakes
Putting mu before the noun, like English in.
Ɔwɔ mu dan no.Ɔwɔ dan no mu.Mu is a place noun and follows the thing it belongs to: dan no mu, the room's inside.
Leaving out wɔ in a location sentence.
Nsuo kuruwa no mu.Nsuo wɔ kuruwa no mu.A sentence about where something is needs the verb wɔ. Without it, nsuo kuruwa no mu is only a phrase.
