How It Works

The demonstrative ta agrees with the noun's gender, number and case. In the nominative singular use ta for masculine and feminine nouns and to for neuter nouns.

Ta knjiga becomes to knjigo when it is a direct object: Berem to knjigo. That to is accusative feminine agreement, whereas to mesto is nominative or accusative neuter. The visible form alone does not determine gender.
