sia
Sia for Strong Informal Reactions
Sia can mark surprise, admiration, or frustration in an informal exchange.
How It Works
A Strong Reaction
Sia can follow a remark to add an expressive reaction. An unexpectedly high price, a difficult walk, or good news can each prompt it.
Not One Emotion
The same ending may accompany admiration or a complaint. Read the content instead of giving sia one permanent translation such as angry or very.
Know the Setting
It is often associated with youthful, very casual speech and can sound coarse. Usage differs across people and groups. Recognizing it is useful; adding it to every sentence does not make a speaker sound more local, and a formal message may call for a different choice.
