Saying Whose One It Is

Level 3

A possessor followed by one can identify the thing owned: This umbrella my sister one. One stands for the understood thing; it is distinct from a number and from clause-final assertion one.

How It Works

A possessor followed by one can identify an understood thing belonging to that possessor. This umbrella my sister one means it is my sister's umbrella. One stands for the thing; it is not a claim that the sister has only one umbrella.

The surrounding noun or context identifies what is owned. This is different from my umbrella, where my comes before the noun, and from habitual final one after a whole assertion. A full English possession frame is also available. Do not translate the same spelling one as the number one unless the construction actually counts.
