never
Saying an Event Did Not Happen
Never can deny an event in a relevant past situation: Just now I never see him. Here it need not mean at no time in the person's whole life.
How It Works
Never can negate an event in a relevant past interval. Just now I never see him means that I did not see him on that occasion. It does not necessarily deny every possible meeting with him across my life.
Use the time and question to identify the interval. In a lifetime-experience context, never can still mean at no time. A speaker can also use didn't or a full perfect negative where appropriate. Do not translate a specific missed action as a lifetime fact, and do not assume that never always means the action is still expected to happen later.
