lor
Lor for Conclusions and Acceptance
Lor often says, in effect, that this is how things stand.
How It Works
A Conclusion From the Situation
Lor can frame the clause as the natural consequence of what has just been said. It may answer a problem with the option that remains.
Acceptance Has Several Tones
Then take bus lor. may be a calm solution when a taxi is expensive. It may sound resigned if the speaker dislikes the option. Do not build disappointment into every translation of lor.
Choose for the Conversation
Lor differs from a neutral question marker. Replacing it with meh may turn acceptance into doubt rather than merely changing the sound of the sentence.
Examples (3)
- No seats inside? Then sit outside lor.
If there are no seats inside, we will sit outside then.
The speaker accepts the available option.
- You want the red one? Take the red one lor.
If you want the red one, go ahead and take it.
The reply treats the choice as straightforward.
- Last train gone already. Take taxi lor.
The last train has left, so a taxi is the option left.
The speaker may sound resigned about the cost, but the words alone do not prove annoyance.
