امروز، دیروز، فردا
Time Words in a Clause
امروز is today, دیروز is yesterday, and فردا is tomorrow. A time word helps anchor the event; it does not conjugate the verb by itself.
How It Works
Anchor a past event. دیروز آمدم means “I came yesterday.” دیروز names the day, and آمدم supplies the simple-past event and first-person subject.
Read today with more than one tense. امروز کار میکنم can describe today’s work or plan. امروز کار کردم reports work already done today. “Today” does not mean that the verb must be an ordinary present form.
Read a future plan in context. فردا به تهران میروم uses an ordinary present form with tomorrow’s time phrase. The sentence refers to a plan or anticipated event; do not translate it as happening now merely because میروم is present-shaped.
A time phrase can have flexible placement depending on what the speaker emphasizes. Keep the neutral order as a starting point rather than treating every movement as a mistake.
Use actual tense and aspect clues as well as the time word. A story can shift viewpoints, and a single word such as امروز is not enough to decide every event’s timing without its clause.
