वाह / ओहो
Words of Surprise
These short words start a sentence and show a feeling before the facts.
How It Works
Every language has small words for feelings. They stand outside the sentence and do not change its grammar.
| Word | Feeling |
|---|---|
| वाह | delight, praise |
| ओहो | surprise, a small worry |
| अरे | sudden notice, friendly surprise |
| हाय | pain or dismay |
| छी | disgust |
Put the word at the front and follow it with a comma or an exclamation mark, then say the rest of the sentence. Tone matters as much as the word.
These words are for friends, family and people your own age. In a meeting or a letter, leave them out. अरे is the most casual of them: say it to friends and younger people, not to an elder.
