-आउनु
Making Someone Do Something
-आउनु makes someone else do the action.
How It Works
A causative verb adds a person who makes or lets another act. Many verbs change their ending to -आउनु:
| Plain | Causative |
|---|---|
| सिक्नु (learn) | सिकाउनु (teach) |
| सुत्नु (sleep) | सुताउनु (put to sleep) |
| हाँस्नु (laugh) | हँसाउनु (make laugh) |
| चल्नु (move) | चलाउनु (drive, run) |
The sentence has two people. The causer takes ले, and the one who acts usually takes लाई: आमाले बच्चालाई सुताउनुहुन्छ. Some causatives name no second person, such as चलाउनु in मोटर चलाउनु.
Some verbs change shape in a special way, such as खानु to खुवाउनु, and that group has its own entry. Do not put a pronoun that acts in the plain form: write हामीलाई, not हामी.
