Days of the Week
The days are Méindeg, Dënschdeg, Mëttwoch, Donneschdeg, Freideg, Samschdeg, Sonndeg. They are masculine nouns and start with a capital letter.
How It Works
The seven days
- Méindeg (Monday)
- Dënschdeg (Tuesday)
- Mëttwoch (Wednesday)
- Donneschdeg (Thursday)
- Freideg (Friday)
- Samschdeg (Saturday)
- Sonndeg (Sunday)
All days are masculine: de Méindeg, den Dënschdeg. The weekend is de Weekend. To say what day it is, use no article: Haut ass Samschdeg.
On one day: e / en
Before a day, en follows the n-rule: en Dënschdeg, en Donneschdeg, but e Méindeg, e Mëttwoch, e Freideg, e Samschdeg, e Sonndeg. You will also hear um Sonndeg. See time prepositions.
Every week: -s adverbs
méindes, dënschdes, mëttwochs, donneschdes, freides, samschdes, sonndes. These are adverbs, so they are written in small letters: Vill Bistroen hu méindes zou. With a date they can also name one day: dënschdes, de 25. September.
Adding a time of day
e Méindeg de Moien (on Monday morning), sonndes moies (on Sunday mornings). See moies, mëttes, owes, nuets.
