tuo atveju, jei
In Case
Tuo atveju, jei lis, renginys vyks salėje. means If it rains, the event will take place in the hall.
How It Works
Formal condition. The expression makes the condition explicit and is common in administrative prose. Plain jei is often enough in conversation.
Two boundaries. At the start of a sentence, use Tuo atveju, jei ..., .... The first comma opens the jei clause; the second ends it before the result clause.
English in case. A sentence such as take an umbrella in case it rains gives a precaution, not simply a rule that applies if it rains. Do not substitute this Lithuanian phrase mechanically for every English in case.
