How It Works
An adjective after tá describes the subject: Tá an bhean maith. It does not automatically receive the lenition of a feminine attributive adjective.
After tá, the adjective is the sentence's description rather than an adjective attached directly to a noun. Keep its ordinary form in these examples: the feminine subject does not on its own change maith to mhaith. Noun phrases such as bean mhaith follow another rule.
