Comparatives

Level 2

Níos precedes a comparative adjective, as in níos mó and níos deise. The comparison may be followed by ná.

How It Works

Níos precedes a comparative adjective, as in níos mó and níos deise. The comparison may be followed by ná.

Put níos before the comparative adjective. The comparative may differ from the ordinary adjective, as mór gives mó and deas gives deise. To name the comparison standard, add ná and the relevant phrase; níos alone does not identify what the item is compared with.

Examples (3)

  1. Tá an teach seo níos mó.

    This house is bigger.

  2. Tá an leabhar seo níos deise.

    This book is nicer.

  3. Tá sé níos óige ná mise.

He is younger than I am.
