ti damag / ti bilin + ket + Clause
A Report Framed as a Noun
Use ti + damag or bilin + optional possessor + ket + content.
How It Works
Begin with ti damag, “the news/information,” or ti bilin, “the instruction/request.” Add a possessor when needed, then present the content after ket. Constantino describes this nominal complex frame as infrequent and its abstract noun as usually possessed, rather than obligatorily possessed.
A short possessor attaches to the noun: damagko. A named possessor follows with its marker: bilin ni Tomas. The possessor identifies whose information or instruction is presented; it does not automatically identify the content clause’s actor. In the first example, the speaker reports information heard, while Elena goes home.
The content keeps its own participant marking and aspect. In the instruction example, basaenyo selects the book as patient and identifies plural or respectful addressees as actors. The supplied reference explicitly licenses clausal content in the general frame, but its particular bilin example has demonstrative content. The composed instruction clause applies that general rule rather than reproducing a directly attested sentence.
Examples (3)
- Ti damagko ket nagawid ni Elena.
The news I heard is that Elena went home.
Ko belongs to damag; ni Elena identifies the actor in the content.
- Ti damagda ket adda klase inton bigat.
Their news is that there is class tomorrow.
Da identifies the information’s possessors. The existential content has its own structure.
- Ti bilin ni Tomas ket basaenyo ti libro.
Tomas’s instruction is for you to read the book.
Tomas supplies the instruction; yo identifies plural or respectful addressees as readers. This combines the general nominal-content frame with the independently supported command form.
