איזה / איזו / אילו
Which Noun
איזה is masculine singular, איזו is feminine singular, and אילו is plural. They ask which noun or what kind of noun is intended.
How It Works
Before the Noun
Place the question form before its noun: איזה ספר אתה קורא? The question word makes the noun identifiable as the target of the question; do not simply copy a definite English noun phrase with an extra ה.
Agreement and Register
For careful standard use, match איזה, איזו and אילו to the noun. Everyday איזה מחברת and איזה ספרים are common conversational forms. Treat them as register variation rather than claiming that speakers never use them.
Which or What Kind?
The answer can select a particular item or describe a type: איזה ספר אתה רוצה? may receive הספר הזה or ספר קצר. Context determines the intended question. אילו as which is distinct from the conditional אילו, if only or if, taught later.
