למרות ש־
Concession Despite a Fact
למרות ש means although or despite the fact that before a clause. It contrasts an obstacle or expectation with what happened.
How It Works
Concession
The first fact could have supported another expectation, but the other event still holds: היא באה למרות שהיא הייתה עייפה. The sentence presents both tiredness and coming as relevant facts.
Noun or Clause
Use למרות הגשם for a noun phrase, despite the rain. Use למרות שירד גשם for a clause, although it rained. The clause connector attaches to its first word and keeps its own subject or predicate.
Related Connectors
אף על פי ש expresses the same broad concession relation and is common in careful writing. גם אם presents an even-if condition, which need not already be true. Choose the connector from the speaker’s intended relation rather than translating every English despite or even expression alike.
