איפה / מאיפה / לאן
Asking About Place
איפה asks where something is, מאיפה asks where it comes from, and לאן asks where it is going.
How It Works
Location
איפה הספר? asks where the book is. The answer can be הספר על השולחן. No verb is is needed. איפה את גרה? asks where a female addressee lives.
Source and Destination
מאיפה אתה בא? asks where a male addressee comes from or is coming from. לאן את הולכת? asks her destination. A response such as הביתה, homeward, fits a destination question.
Match the Question
Choose איפה for location, מאיפה for a source and לאן for a destination. The answer should give the relationship asked for.
