mafi
The Most in a Group
The modifier pattern taught here is noun + mafi + quality expression.
How It Works
Place the quality after mafi and the complete modifier after its head noun. Mafi kyau expresses highest goodness or attractiveness; mafi tsawo expresses greatest height or length. The head noun and situation determine the natural English meaning.
Keep the comparison group clear. A building can be tallest in one town without being tallest everywhere. The modifier itself does not identify that group. The examples here teach singular heads; the reference also records a plural form mafiya.
Compare gini mafi tsawo ‘the tallest building’ with Ginin ya fi wancan tsawo ‘The building is taller than that one’. The first ranks within a relevant set; the second compares against a particular standard.
