comigo / contigo / connosco
Comigo, Contigo and Connosco
With the preposition con, several pronouns become one word: comigo (with me), contigo (with you), connosco (with us), convosco (with you all) and consigo (with himself or herself).
How It Works
The forms:
- con + min → comigo (with me)
- con + ti → contigo (with you)
- con + nós → connosco (with us)
- con + vós → convosco (with you all)
- reflexive → consigo (with himself, herself, themselves)
Other persons: use con with the ordinary pronoun: con el, con ela, con eles, con vostede, con vostedes. Con does not join el or ela in writing, unlike de and en (del, dela, nel, nela).
Con nós and con vós: these are also heard and accepted, but connosco and convosco are the preferred forms in careful Galician.
Consigo is only reflexive: it points back to the subject of the same sentence: Ana leva o paraugas consigo (Ana takes the umbrella with her). To say with him or with her about someone else, use con el or con ela: Vou con el (I am going with him).
Spelling: Galician writes comigo with one m, not conmigo as in Spanish.
Other prepositions: they simply take min and ti: para min, sen ti. See pronouns after prepositions.
