pärast seda, kui
After (Pärast Seda, Kui)
Pärast seda, kui ta lahkus, oli toas vaikne means After he left, the room was quiet.
How It Works
pärast seda, kui means after when a whole clause follows. Word for word it is "after that, when". The event in the kui-clause happens first, and the main clause happens next.
- With a noun: use pärast alone, with the partitive: pärast tööd, pärast lõunat. See enne and pärast.
- With a clause: use pärast seda, kui: Pärast seda, kui ma töö lõpetasin, läksin koju.
- Shorter option: a -mine noun can often replace the clause: pärast söömist, pärast töö lõpetamist.
Tenses. For the past, the kui-clause is usually in the simple past or the pluperfect: Pärast seda, kui ta oli lahkunud, ... For the future, use the present or the perfect: Pärast seda, kui oled söönud, võid mängima minna. In everyday speech, peale often means the same as pärast here: peale seda, kui.
Commas. At the start of a sentence, the comma between seda and kui is optional, but the clause still ends with a comma: Pärast seda(,) kui ta lahkus, oli toas vaikne. In the middle of a sentence, put a comma either before the whole group or between its parts: Ta helistas, pärast seda kui koju jõudis. Ta helistas pärast seda, kui koju jõudis. The mirror image is enne kui, which introduces the later event.

The perfect olen jõudnud shows that getting home comes first, in the future.
